Breaking ground on a new era of crisis care in Montgomery County

Written by Connections Health Solutions | November 2025

Monday, November 17, 2025 marked a significant milestone for behavioral health care in Pennsylvania as we joined Montgomery County officials, mental health advocates, law enforcement, and community partners for the groundbreaking ceremony of a new emergency behavioral health crisis center in King of Prussia.

The new center that will be located at 1021 W. 8th Avenue will deliver comprehensive services for both adults and youth. It will feature two dedicated walk-in urgent care units: one for youth ages 1–17 and another for adults. The center will also include separate observation units for adults and youth (ages 12 and older). For youth who need additional time and support, a crisis stabilization unit will provide extended care for individuals ages 12 and up.

“Together we’re going to help tens of thousands of people at the time that they need it most," said Montgomery County Commissioner Neil Makhija.

Meeting a critical need

The statistics paint a clear picture of the crisis we're addressing together. Montgomery County has seen approximately 5,500 residents receive treatment through the Department of Health and Human Services this year, with 10,000 people calling the crisis hotline and around 1,000 people assisted through mobile crisis team interventions. Yet these numbers only scratch the surface of the true need.

This investment, funded through county capital dollars, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, federal and county COVID-19 relief funds, Community Mental Health Services Block Grants, and opioid settlement funding—will create a center operating 24/7/365 with a "no wrong door" approach. That means anyone, regardless of insurance status, background, or how they arrive, will receive specialized behavioral health care.

Proven model, expanded impact

At Connections Health Solutions, we're honored to bring our experience in operating crisis centers in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington to this partnership. Our Harrisburg center, which opened in December 2024, has demonstrated the model's effectiveness:

  • Seen and treated more than 5,000 individuals seeking behavioral health crisis services
  • Stabilized 70% of patients within 24 hours and safely discharged them back to their community and outpatient provider
  • Averaged less than 40 minutes from the time an individual walks through the door to when they see a crisis worker
  • Reduced the burden on law enforcement with 400 law enforcement and first responder drop offs through the end of October, an average of 37 a month

"We look forward to doing this here and at a much greater level and we're pleased to be part of the community and join Montgomery County's focus on providing dedicated behavioral health crisis center care to all those who need it." said Matt Miller, Chief Growth and Development Officer at Connections Health Solutions.

What's next

The center is scheduled to open in December 2026 and will employ approximately 100 professionals dedicated to delivering the highest standard of crisis intervention and stabilization services.
