Celebrating excellence in behavioral health design: Connections Kirkland wins the 2024 SHN Architecture & Design Award

Connections Health Solutions Nov 7, 2024

We are thrilled to announce that Connections Kirkland has been honored with the prestigious 2024 Senior Housing News (SHN) Architecture & Design Award in the Behavioral Health Category. This award recognizes the most innovative and thoughtfully designed behavioral health facilities, and we are incredibly proud that our center in Kirkland, Washington, has been selected as the winner.

The Behavioral Health Category celebrates newly constructed or renovated facilities that serve a range of behavioral health needs, from inpatient to outpatient and residential care. Submissions were closely evaluated by a panel of expert judges based on the design and functionality of the buildings. Winning such a distinguished award speaks volumes about the hard work, creativity, and attention to detail that went into making the Connections Kirkland center a reality.

A vision of excellence in crisis care

The journey to Connections Kirkland began with a vision to transform the way behavioral health care is delivered. The team sought to combine clinical excellence with an exceptional environment that supports healing. Understanding that the physical space in which care is delivered is just as critical as the care itself, the team set out to design a facility that would be a model of comfort, safety, and innovation. We are proud that this vision has come to life and is now helping to support countless individuals and families in the Kirkland community.

This 45,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility opened in August 2024 to support individuals in behavioral health crises, guiding them toward recovery. Designed with safety at the forefront, the center blends modern aesthetics with secure, supportive features.

In collaboration with Stantec Architecture and Skyline Construction, we prioritized safety in every detail. Ligature-resistant furnishings and fixtures provide a safe, peaceful environment, while rounded edges, secure attachments, and tamper-resistant materials further minimize risks. This thoughtful design fosters a space where individuals can focus on healing, confidently in an environment that supports their journey to better mental health.

Looking ahead

As we continue to serve the King County community, we look forward to the positive impact it will have on the lives of those in need. The recognition from SHN is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and vision that have gone into making Connections Kirkland a beacon of hope and care in the field of behavioral health.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Stantec, Skyline Construction, and all of our partners who made this project possible. Most of all, we thank the individuals and families who trust us to be part of their journey to recovery.
